KG - Kerala Ganja

KG is smuggled in to Sri Lanka through India and it is grown in the south Indian province of Kerala. It is much more potent than the local ganja (most commonly known as "mal") and it is quite easy to get hold of. There are different qualities of KG, depending on the price you are willing to pay. I once bought 10 grams for rs.6000 from Maradana which was much more potent than the usual KG, it was almost as good as regular kush which costs about rs.4000 for 5 grams. Since there is a deficit of local produce in the market due to the increasing number of raids carried out by the army, KG has become very popular among the local stoners.

KG is available in almost all cities in the western province, especially in the coastal areas. If you do not know a dealer or someone who knows a dealer, the best way to get it is by talking to a tuk tuk driver in a touristy-destination like mount lavinia. You might have to pay more, or the quality of the product might be less as you're a first time customer. A typical bag of KG containing 1/2 a gram may cost somewhere between rs.300-700, and if you're buying it from a tuk tuk driver it might cost more for the hire as they do not keep the product with them.

I once had some KG at a friends party which gave me a head ache while i was smoking the joint. Apparently he bought it from Maligawatte for rs.1500 for 2 grams. The left over KG had a pungent smell, probably from formalin. After that night I asked my dealer one day about this particular KG and its effects and the bad smell, and he told me a pretty horryfying story. Apparently some people mix local ganja with bee's honey, formalin and heroine and sell it as KG. I can't tell for sure whether this is true or not, but i can certainly tell that i smelled formalin in my friends stash.

So if you're buying KG, be careful of the fake product. It could bring serious harm to your body after consuming it for a period of time and that could further tarnish the image of cannabis in Sri Lanka and jeopardize the legalization process.

A joint in each hand!

Cannabis (popularly known as "ganja") is not at all tolerated in Sri Lanka. Although you can get away from the law by paying off a few cops, it is still profoundly frowned upon by the society; mainly because 'our people' are not well-read about cannabis use.

I personally think that cannabis is the safest recreational drug ever. It is safer than alcohol and cigarettes but it still disapproved by our society. Some people think cannabis is a gateway to other hard drugs such as heroine or LSD which i strongly disapprove of because statistically when comparing the number of cannabis users to hard drug users, the numbers are extremely small, logically negligible suggesting that there is no link at all. If you google up cannabis facts you can easily see my point, but beware there are many sites which state that cannabis is bad for you providing fake statistics.

In this blog i hope to write about my experiences being a pot smoker and facts about ganja such as where to buy it in sri lanka, where and how to consume it, etc.
